June 23, 2020 - State Legislature reconvened on Monday while around 30 community members rallied at the Capitol for lawmakers to allocate $362 million of the federal relief funds to families who need assistance in food, housing, health care, child care, and other support.
Deborah Zysman, executive director of Hawaii Children's Action Network, said “our main message to the Legislature is to get the money out quickly, as directly as possible, to people who need it the most.”
The Working Families Coalition released a comprehensive plan on the spending of the federal relief funds that divides the funding between immigration assistance, health care, social services, basic needs like food banks and mortgage assistance.
